With bated breath I watched the first Outlander auction this afternoon. I noticed a continued trend from last year’s Downton Abbey auction at Bonhams, which was that an unexpected prop fetched the highest price, when everyone expected the top lot to be a costume. For Downton, it was the servants’ bells. For Outlander, it was Claire’s wedding rings, at 28,160 GBP including premium (preauction estimate at a mere 800 - 1,200 GBP). Considering the romantic focus of the show, I was hardly surprised! I loved some of the top performing costumes, too, including Claire’s red French dress, one of her tartan dresses, a wedding ensemble, her dress to travel through the stones, and Jamie’s iconic Battle of Culloden outfit. I’ll definitely miss this show and am glad there’s still another season!

Some favorites from the Rising Voices exhibition at the Victoria & Albert museum yesterday with @shreyasoota. I was blown away by how some of the artists payed homage to their cultural heritage by reinventing it in more Contemporary forms. Miniature paintings on porcelain were a first for me!

It’s days like today I’m especially grateful to live in London, where I can see a staggering quantity of phenomenal works of art and pieces of history in a single day. The showstopper was a first edition copy of Wuthering Heights, which sold for over 1.2 million GBP at Christie’s. I’m still in awe of how closely I was able to examine the book! It was a really amazing day of sales and exhibitions at Christie’s and Bonhams, particularly for decorative art.
